Radio Namaskar is the first community radio of Odisha in operation at Konark (Internationally renowned tourist place famous for Sun Temple) since 12th February 2010 to make the common people informative & active participant of the community development process.

Radio Namaskar in its 10 years of spectacular journey has become the voice for voiceless people who were unable to communicate with mainstream media to express their voices. Radio Namaskar as a community radio which is owned and managed by community people has given space to all the marginalized and deprived people from the rural communities to raise their voices and advocate for their own issues. For effective & innovative community based broadcasting, Radio Namaskar has also received First National Community Radio Award from Ministry of information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India. Also received national & international awards like South Asia Manthan Award, South Asia mBillionth Award, Ladli Award & many more.

Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Fani (also pronounced as “Foni”) leaves trail of devastation across Indian coastal state Odisha. Radio Namaskar couldn’t escape from the devastation by Cyclone Fani on 3rd May 2019 morning and leaves the community radio with collapsed tower & damage of equipments, are non-repairable. After 10 years successful journey still Radio Namaskar is running in rented building. As Konark is a cyclone prone area every year we face problem during rainy season when any type of cyclone hits this locality. A permanent building is required for Radio Namaskar which will encourage the team to work in a safe environment during any disaster.

A community radio is very difficult to manage and run its daily operations due to lack of financial stability. The Govt has provided strict guidelines where community radios are limited to extend their links to grab financial supports. As the radio based in a rural patch, neither the local advertisers nor big advertisers shows any interest in advertising on Radio Namaskar.

Now the continuation of radio operation is uncertain and may remain close for long time. So the situation may lead to permanent shut down of Radio Namaskar, if we will not act immediately. But, there is a hope where we all can support to community radio as per our capabilities to restore its operation to serve the society.
